Rabbit Baiting

Somehow this country has allowed rabbits to get out of control (again!) and I can't help but notice the multitude of rabbits at the Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus every time I drive by. For every one rabbit above ground, there are ten underground. I would like to suggest a rabbit baiting programme for February this year (it has to be February). Pindone is easily obtainable through a local landcare group. For those that ...more »

Energy Efficient appliances (star rating)

The use of 5 star appliances in staff tea rooms should be encouraged (and enforced).

I noticed the fridges in the new staff area at the Waterfront campus have about a 3 star rating. I think for a University promoting energy efficiency and environmental sustainability, we should be using 5 star rated fridges.

Energy Efficient Product Swap

I think it would be a great idea for the Uni to try and host a product swap, for example, old filament light globes for CFL globes, showerheads etc. This has two benefits, whilst Environmental benefits are obvious, for students living in temporary/share accomodation there is an avenue to increase the efficiency of their temporary home, reducing their living costs and impact whilst studying. Due to the temporary nature, ...more »

Photovoltaic installation at Waterfront campus

Both the DCP and Hay buildings at the Waterfront campus have ideal roof configurations for PV panels, as the saw-toothed design results in a lot of north facing, angled roof space.

Recyclables

There seems to be a lack of recycling options available for staff. Aluminum cans, glass bottles, cardboard boxes, plastic bottles/containers all go into the bin destined for landfill. It seems wasteful when recycling bins in staff areas would go a long way toward solving the problem.

bike parking and locker availability at Waurn Ponds

There has been a recent increase in the number of staff and students riding bicycles to the campus. However, there is not enough space for the number of bikes to be parked undercover. Not everyone has access to put their bikes in their offices. Many people are happy to ride to work on rainy days but would like to be able to protect their bikes to at least some extent on rainy days. The undercover bike racks next to the ...more »

Seating at cross campus bus stops

As the University is asking us to go between the Geelong campuses using the shuttle bus - it would be great if seats and shelters were provided at all the stops not just the 'free' car park. Standing in the sun, rain or just plain cold while you are waiting for the shuttle isn't fun.

Yearly Metcard/Myki Pass

Metlink Melbourne advertise the availability of a 365-day Myki Pass at a reduced rate to members of its "Commuter Club". The saving can either be absorbed by the workplace or passed to staff/students. Possible salary sacrifice available to staff? I know I'd buy one!
